How To Make Money From The Internet

Introduction

Starting your own online business is a lot easier than you might expect. With a little guidance you can get started making money online in just a few hours, without a list, a product or even a website.

This report cuts through the nonsense and gives you the essential knowledge that you need to start making money online quickly.

Let's get started...

Tip One - Take Action

This is the most important tip that you'll ever receive when it comes to setting up and running an online business. You must take action. Even if you don't think you know enough you still need to take action.

Let's face it, when you're first starting out there's a lot to learn.... and I mean a LOT! If you waited until you know 'everything' before you start you'll never get started. The golden rule is to learn something then act on it... over time you'll learn new things and you can refine your business as you go, but if you wait until you 'feel ready' before you take action you'll never get started.

When I set up my first online business way back in the late 90s I honestly didn't have a clue what I was doing. My site was a mess, I had no security whatsoever and I wasn't even capturing my customers details! But... I learned 3 basics steps and put them into action. Those 3 steps allowed me to create a website that generated over $500 in sales every week for almost a decade.

If I had waited until I felt ready I would never have launched that little business. But by taking action I not only made money, but I also learned more from my 'mistakes' than I could ever have learned from study alone.

I'm guessing you want to know what those 3 steps were, right? Well, I have good news.... because that's tip two :)

Tip Two - 3 Steps To An Online Business

There are unlimited ways that you can make money online. One of the easiest ways to get started is to promote other peoples products, but we'll come back to this later. For now, I want to give you the simple 3 step formulae for setting up your own business, selling your own product, from your own website...

Step One - Your Sales Page

Whatever product you're selling you need to communicate the value of your product to your target audience. You do this with your sales page. If you have the cash to spare, paying a professional writer to create a sales page for you is one of the most profitable investments you'll ever make. And even if you have no capital, it's still worth getting a copy writer on board. A great way to get started without an initial investment is to strike a deal so that they receive a percentage of your future sales. Trust me... it's worth it.

If you decide to create your sales page yourself then a really easy (and free) way to do this is to find somebody else that's already successfully selling a product similar to yours. Read through their website and notice how each section of the site makes you feel. Good sales pages trigger specific psychological states at specific times during the sales process. Read the headline and ask yourself how it makes you feel. The chances are it'll make you feel as though you're in the right place. It'll tell you that if you read on you'll be able to find the solution to your problem. Now write a similar headline for your own page using this one as inspiration, making sure it fires off those same psychological triggers.

Keep on doing this all the way through the sales page, paying very close attention to the feelings you experience from each section of the sales copy.

When you have the first draft of your sales page ready pick out some key points and create subheadings to break up the block of text. Now go back to the start and skim read the entire page. To be effective your sales page needs to communicate the benefits of your product to people that only read the subheadings and bullets. This is known as a double readership path. Some people will read every word of your site, others will just skim it. You need to make sure you cater for both types of people. Never assume that people will read everything, 99% of them won't.

Creating a good sales page is not an art, it's a science. When you copy somebody else's successful page you skip the learning curve, but there's a lot going on that you'll probably miss. If you want to learn the science of writing compelling sales pages that practically force your visitors to buy your products click here

You can create your sales copy using whatever program you're most familiar with. At this stage it doesn't need to be a proper website, you just need to focus on the message you are trying to communicate.

To turn your sales copy into a website you don't need any special programming skills or knowledge. You can use WYSIWYG software to automatically create the code for you. WYSIWYG stands for 'What You See Is What You Get' and it enables you to create an internet ready website from a basic document.

Don't worry about making it too fancy, you can make changes and improvements later. The most important thing is to get it online. It's really easy to tweak a website as you learn more. Remember my first website? It was nothing more than a sales letter with a 'Buy Now' button. As I learned more I added to it, but in the early days it was basically a MS Word document that talked about the benefits of my product. I didn't even have a picture when I first started but I still made money.

Of course, if you have the capital to support it you can pay a web developer to create a fancy site for you. However, a word of warning.... NEVER ask a graphic designer to build your site! They'll want to add animations, widgets and all sorts of 'clever' nonsense that will cripple your sales. If you decide to go the paid route then find a web developer that creates sales pages. If you've invested in a copy writer to create your sales copy (which you should have) then they'll be able to point you in the right direction, or even do it for you. It's actually very easy to create a basic website and you only need spend a few hours on youtube watching some basic 'how to' videos to get up to speed on the skills necessary to do it yourself.

Once you've created your sales page you need to upload it to the internet. Don't worry, this is really easy. There are countless companies out there that want your business. If you use their services to host your website they'll guide you through every step of the process. You don't have to know anything about programming.

Most people are terrified of anything technical when they first get started. You should always remember that at every stage of the process there are people that will help you. If you are paying for a service (such as web hosting) then they'll have lots of very basic step-by-step tutorials for you to follow. And you can always search Google for a solution if you're stumped. If you really don't want to do anything yourself then you can very easily find somebody that will be happy to do everything for you, for a small fee of course. There are many multi-millionaire entrepreneurs out there that are making silly money from the internet that know absolutely nothing about programming, they just pay people that do.

Step Two - Accepting Payment

Once you've created a website you need a way of accepting payments. There are two ways you can do this. Both are very easy to implement but one is infinitely more powerful than the other.

The first option is to set up a payment portal by using a company such as PayPal. You're probably already familiar with PayPal and I'm guessing that you already have a PayPal account that you use to buy and sell things on eBay.

PayPal offer a really useful service for people that are selling products or services from a website. You can set up PayPal 'Buy Now' or 'Add to cart' buttons that your visitors can click to buy your product.

When you create the button PayPal will give you some code to copy and paste into your website and they'll take care of all of the complicated security and card processing for you. Once the order has been processed they'll send you an email with the customers details so that you can send them the product. You can even configure your PayPal button to send people back to a specific page on your website. Most people use this page to confirm the order and thank the customer but if you're selling a digital product then you can set up this page as a download page so that your customer can get their product immediately.

Everything that PayPal does is exactly what you need. But, there is a much much better option.... ClickBank.

ClickBank do pretty much the same as PayPal. They give you some code to create your 'Buy Now' button and the take care of processing the payment for you before sending the customer back to your website to download their purchase.

However, ClickBank have one up on PayPal in a really big way. They have a very established network of affiliates that will promote your product for you.

This is how it works...

When you set up your product on ClickBank it is automatically added to their marketplace. Affiliates can browse the marketplace, find your product and promote it for you. If they make a sale you have to pay them a commission, but ClickBank handles this for you. They process the payment, take a small percentage for themselves and split the rest between you and the affiliate that generated the sale. You decide how much you want to pay the affiliate (most people pay 50% to 75% but it's entirely your choice).

Once the payment has been processed, just like PayPal, ClickBank will send the customer back to your website, and this leads us on to step 3...

Step Three - Delivering Your Product

The final step of the process is to deliver your product. If your product is a digital product, such as an ebook, you can provide the download link on the 'thank you page'. This is the page that ClickBank (or PayPal) send your customer to after the order has been processed. This means that your entire business is completely automated! Somebody on the other side of the world can find your website, read your sales page, buy your product, download it and start using it all while you're sleeping.

If you are selling a physical product then you can use your 'thank you page' to let your customer know how long it'll be for deliver, and, of course, thank them for their order.

Beyond Step 3 - Making More Money!

These 3 steps are the basic structure of a simple online business, but you can go much much further. I don't want to over complicate things here but I just want to give you a few ideas to think about so you can see how your business can grow over time.

The easiest way to make more money is to sell something else to your existing customers. It's much easier to sell a product to somebody that's just bought something from you than it is to sell to somebody that's not done business with you yet.

If you don't have another product to sell then you can recommend somebody else's product as an affiliate. Remember the ClickBank marketplace? This is an excellent source of tens of thousands of products that you can promote to your customers.

If you want to automate your business then you can set up an auto responder that emails your customers for you, sending out valuable information to keep them happy and adverts for related products that will earn you a commission. I've got autoresponders that email my customers for a full year offering them products and services that lots of them buy. Of course setting up an auto responder like that takes some time but it's definitely worth it if you want your business to run itself.

Tip Three - What Should You Sell?

In a word.... information.

If you want to make money online then you need to start selling information. And it really doesn't matter what that information is, so long as you can find a market of people that want to know it.

My first product was an ebook called 'How to Hypnotise'. I wrote the book myself based on my experience as a stage hypnotist in the early 90s.

As a physical book, selling in conventional bookstores, I couldn't really ask for much more than $10. But online, selling the book as a download, it was suddenly worth so much more. At first I priced the ebook version at $2.99, which was a huge mistake. I didn't sell a single copy in two weeks. But when I learned about perceived value and raised the price to $49.99 I sold two on the first night.

Offline, a physical product is usually valued by the cost to make it. But online an information product has a perceived value of whatever your sales message can convey to your customer. If your sales copy is good then the exact same information from a book that sells for a few dollars offline could sell for thousands online.... with the additional benefit of being instantly delivered with practically zero cost to you.

After I'd been successfully selling my ebook for a while I decided to read the book out and record it as an MP3 so I could offer an audio book version 'upgrade option' to my customers. The book was only very short so it didn't take long for me to record the audio version and because I did it myself it didn't cost anything either. But it did make me a lot more money :) I priced the audio upgrade option at $97 and most of my customers snapped it up! I practically doubled my income overnight!

I later added a few simple videos to the package of me demonstrating some of the inductions that I taught in the book. This enabled me to increase the price to $197 and because I was selling the product using the ClickBank system we discussed earlier this attracted an army of affiliates that promoted the course for me.

Whatever subject interests you you can easily write (or pay somebody to write for you) a 50 page ebook that you can sell online in exactly the same way that I sold my hypnosis guide. You can then turn your ebook into an audio book and offer it as an up-sell.

Even if you have no idea what to write about you can still copy this simple formulae. One of the of the most effective ways to create a product to sell is to visit online groups and ask people what their most pressing questions are on a particular subject. Once you have a list of questions research the answers and make each one a chapter in your book. You can even give your list of questions to a ghost writer to research and they'll create the entire book for you. This is a strategy that lots of millionaire entrepreneurs have been using for years to create products quickly and easily with very little cost. One of the beauties of this system is that you already have a market for your book once it's ready... the people that asked the questions! And you know that your book will meet their needs because they helped you create it.

Tip Four - Leveraging YouTube

I want to tell you about a guy I know that's killing it online without a product, a list or even a site. You can easily copy what he's doing and be up and running in a few hours.

He goes through the ClickBank Marketplace and finds products with sales videos. He then downloads the videos and uploads them to his YouTube account. In the more info section on YouTube he adds his affiliate link and includes a massive list of keywords that will help people to find the video.

How do I know this? Because he did it with one of my ClickBank products! Now here's the killer.... This guy is my number one affiliate, by miles!!!! Almost 50% of my sales for that particular product come through his affiliate link. That means that he's making almost as much as me from my business!

Isn't that incredible!

Downloading a video from a sales page, uploading it to your YouTube account and adding your affiliate link with a list of keywords isn't rocket science. Even if you're a complete beginner a quick search on Google would tell you everything you need to know to copy this guys idea. Even if it takes you all day to do one, that video will continue making money for you for years.... completely passively :)

Of course, setting up your own business selling your own product is much better. When you have your own product you can build a list, which is almost the same as having a machine that prints money. When you have a list, if you ever need money you can just send out an email to your list promoting a product that you know they'll love and watch the dollars come rolling in.

Tip Five - Get Traffic!

If you have an offline business then there's a chance that somebody will walk past your store, have a nose in the window, then pop in and buy something. Online this can not and does not happen... EVER. Nobody will ever 'stumble' into your website.

Online you need to promote your site if you want to generate traffic. One of the main benefits of ClickBank over PayPal as a payment processing solution is the army of affiliates that look through the ClickBank marketplace for a product to promote. These guys spend a lot of money, time and expertise getting people to visit your website in exchange for a percentage of the profits if they generate a sale. Unlike conventional advertising you pay them nothing up front. They take all of the risk and you only pay them after they've made a sale. Affiliates are awesome, but you can't rely on them alone, you still need to get traffic to your site if you want it to be a success.

One of the easiest and quickest (but expensive) ways to generate traffic is through Google Adwords. This is basically bidding on keywords that will drive traffic to your site. Whenever you do a search on Google you'll get a couple of 'adverts' at the top of the listing and a bunch of them down the right hand side. These adverts have been paid for and the person that paid the most gets their advert at the top (this is not strictly accurate, Google reward sites that have great content and rank them higher even if the owner pays less for the keyword, but it's a good rule of thumb).

When you advertise like this you pay per click (PPC). This means that you only pay if a person actually clicks on your advert and visits your page. For this reason it's very important that your advert is not misleading. If you use words like 'FREE' in your advert you'll attract a lot of clicks (that you have to pay for!) and when those people arrive at your site only to discover that your product isn't free they are very unlikely to buy anything.

A really nice alternative to Google Adwords is Facebook Adverts. Facebook adverts are incredibly highly targeted. You can choose people from a specific location, age, sex, interest, income level... even select people that have bought a product online before! The list of variables that you can stipulate for your audience on Facebook is immense.

As a golden rule... There is no such thing as free traffic generation. If it's free, then you'll probably have to invest a lot of time and effort making it work, and it's very unlikely to be effective. Your time is money! So if it takes time then it costs money. Don't waste your time on 'free' traffic generation programs that don't work. Bite the bullet and invest in something that is proven, it's worth it!

When you pay for traffic you know exactly how much money you are paying for each visitor to your website. If this figure is less than the amount of money you make on average from each visitor to your website then you are making money. If it's more you are losing money. If you are making money then buy more traffic!

If, on average, you make 50 cents from every visitor to your website (for example, 1 in every 100 visitors buy your product that sells for $50) and you are paying 25 cents per click, then you are doubling your money.

Tip Six - Test, and refine

Once your website is up and running it's time to start tweaking it so that you can make more money. You do this with split testing.

When you split test a website you split your traffic in two and send half of the people to one version of your website and half to another. The two versions of your site will be identical, all but one change.

That change might be a different headline, or a cover image.

After some time (a minimum of a week) you compare the performance of each version of your site to see which one made you the most money. You then scrap the losing version, keep the winning one and run another test.

Over time, by continually split testing your website, you'll be able to optimise it so that you are making as much money as possible from each visitor.

Split testing on your own is very complicated so this is something you will need to out-source. There are many split testing companies out there that you can use.

Split testing is paramount to your success. This isn't just something that is recommend, it's essential. If you have an online business you absolutely must split test. If you don't you are missing out on thousands of dollars.

Conclusion

This book was intended to give you a better understanding of how to create an online business. Obviously I haven't gone into the details for each of the tasks you need to complete, I didn't want to do that. I wanted to give you the big picture, so that you feel comfortable with the idea of running an online business without getting bogged down by the logistics.

As I said previously, don't worry about the little details. At every step of the way there will be people that are very willing to help you for free. If you need to FTP your site to your server and you have no clue what you're doing then just ask the support staff of your hosting company, that's what they are there for. And if there's anything that you don't understand, type your question into Google. Within seconds you'll have plenty of great step-by-step videos that will guide you through the problem (and you'll learn something new too).

Ideally you shouldn't concern yourself with the technical side of the business at all. It sounds crazy but the less you know the better. The best thing you can do is pay somebody else to take care of the complicated stuff for you. You just need to concentrate on making sure that your product provides excellent value to your customers, for everything else there will always be somebody much more skilled than you that will do the job for you for a very reasonable price. If you try to do everything yourself you'll get overwhelmed very quickly, and your 'launch date' will keep on moving backwards. Copy what the most successful online entrepreneurs do. None of the 'gurus' are wasting their time coding websites, they know that it's much more efficient to pay an expert to do that for them while they focus on the things that can't be out sourced, like thinking of the next multi-millionaire making project they are going to launch.

I wish you the very best of success with your online business and I'm sure our paths will cross again in the future. Take care of yourself and your loved ones and always remember the reason that you decided that you wanted to start an online business. Whatever that is for you, that is your driving force. It's your motivation. Every time you procrastinate (and when you don't have a boss breathing down your neck or deadline to keep you probably will) think of that image that first put you on this path and use it as inspiration to keep on going.

It's now up to you.... it's time for you to follow the very first (and most important) tip that I gave you in this book... Take Action!
